Lapis Lazuli is one of my favorite stones.  These Lapis beads are quite interesting as they are matte yet a beautiful blue.  Here again, I have juxtaposed them with two identical vintage carved metal beads from Northern Africa and a large, rare vintage cloisonné and enamel bead from Asia.  I love mixing materials from different continents and time periods.

Lapis Lazuli is one of the most sought-after stones in use since man’s history began. Its deep, celestial blue remains the symbol of royalty and honor, gods and power, spirit and vision. It is a universal symbol of wisdom and truth.

In ancient times, Lapis Lazuli was highly regarded because of its beautiful color and the valuable ultramarine dye. Its name comes from the Latin lapis, “stone,” and the Persian lazhuward, “blue.”
